I had discovered, purely by chance, that you could turn your Snapchat profile visible to others and you would then see people around you. And for weeks I could see various people who appeared to be looking for hookups and possibly escorts. I was curious... or maybe desperate?
I kept seeing one woman who would show up nearby, so I finally reached out and said hi. I can't even remember her username but she was a bit forward and wanted a lot of information, and payment. It spooked me so I said my goodbye, but she found me again with another account, and eventually a couple others too. Finally she gave up.
I found another woman however who seemed like quite a story...
I will call her Jasmine. She had reddish hair and a fantastic body. The catch. She admitted straight up she was a prostitute and I do not want to support anyone being trafficked. But this story changed as we conversed. She claims she was too selective and her boss was pissed at her and wanted to sell off her contract (is that a thing?). Her boss was in the Philippines and I guess that's a thing there, but I asked why she just didn't run off and hide. She claimed he would have some local dude come and kill her. Hmmm
We talked for days, and she sounded like a sweet person who was living a tough life. She wanted out of her situation, understandably. But she said if she could get free, she would be my friend with benefits as long as I wanted her. Her boss wanted $2000 to get rid of her though. Yikes!
After we talked a while, she had said she refused to do much work for her boss and he was willing to let her go for $350. Ok, now I see the scam potential here but the chance to do good for someone and still get a FWB seemed like a risk I was willing to take. So I did it. I sent $350 to her boss in the Philippines through Western Union (yeah, I know). And of course, they claimed it got held by their bank for 10 days before he could get the money.
And ten days of chatting and learning about each other, Jasmine was ready to be free and be my special friend, when came the next request for another payment. And this one was a lot. I knew the scam was upon me and I've already proven myself a target so I worked to challenge "her" and prove some part of her story was reality. She ended up disappearing online when I wouldn't pay up and kept questioning her.
I have been approached by a half dozen others on Snapchat and every single one was shady and focused on selling "content" or selling "hookups" by having me send money on Paypal or CashApp. My recommendation... avoid any dating attempts on Snapchat!
